Luis

Luis is a high school student in Oregon. He spends his afternoons working with younger minority students in a group called Tech Wizards. He helps these students learn robotics, programing and much more. He, like many other young adults, spends a lot of time on the computer. He believes that his use of technology help his studies, community and life in general.

The significant take away from Luis's story is that we need to accept that students will be spending a lot of time on the internet and looking for new ways to explore technology and to give them the opportunity to do this for positive educational purposes. I know that because of the class Technology for Teachers I have found a very useful purpose for facebook, blogging, twitter, etc. These social networks before seemed to me as a waste of time, now I can see that we can use these as educational tools that the students are eager to use. Win win situation.
